McDonald’s app saves customers queue time

An increasing number of restaurants, especially those pertaining to the fast-food business, are adopting alternative ordering methods that reduce time in the product delivery process.

McDonald’s, one of those restaurants, has introduced a mobile app where clients can input their choice of restaurant products from home or wherever they may be.

The problem that arises for restaurants who offer customers such pre-order methods, is how to still serve customers the same fresh, hot meal while still allowing them to order by hours in advance?

McDonald’s decided to tackle the problem by cooking the food only once the customer has entered one of the company’s restaurants.

The steps required by customers to take are: fill in an online order via the McDonald’s app and then check-in via the same app the moment you arrive at the restaurant or the drive-through.

McDonald’s workers will then start preparing your pre-ordered meal and deliver it fresh and hot.

Although customers will definitely save time on sitting in queues to place their order, the won’t save time on waiting for their meal to be ready. However, the former is, indeed, the lesser of two evils.

McDonald’s chief operating officer, Tim Fenton, stated, regarding the introduction of a mobile app via which customers can pre-order food, that ‘restaurants with multiple ordering points outperform those restaurants that do not have them.’
