Thief snatches Dali sculpture from Paris museum
French police is searching for two thieves who managed to break into a museum in Paris and get away with a Salvador Dali sculpture. The masterpiece was displayed in an exhibition at Montmarte in Paris.
It was a coordinated break in. One of the thieves tried to steal a sculpture entitled “Danse du Temps I ” at the Espace Dali, but he was spotted by a few tourists and ran away. The second thief broke in another gallery and managed to take off with a bronze sculpture made by the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali.
Dali's stolen art is estimated to be worth about 22,000 euros. It was encased in a glass case that was not equipped with an alarm. Both thieves were gone by the time police arrived to the gallery.
Incidents involving famous stolen art works are common in France. A few months ago, French police recovered “Child with a Soap Bubble” a famous Rembrandt painting. The masterpiece was stolen in 1999 from a gallery and it was found in Nice.
