'The Roof' combines theatre with video games
'The Roof' is a theatre play that brings video games to life by following an actor who runs, jumps and fights through different levels of difficulty in an outdoor environment.
Spectators are required to wear headphones so that they can hear the character's thoughts and follow his story.
The unconventional play is the work of David Rosenberg, Frauke Requardt and Jon Bausor, the man who organized the opening ceremony for the 2012 Paralympics.
Requardt explains the idea behind the action-packed play: 'There’s a story of an avatar that is chucked into an environment that he is unfamiliar with, he’s finding out more and more as he goes along. We have borrowed the structure of gaming where you progress through levels to a place where you have become a bit more efficient within the rules of the game, and maybe even start questioning those rules and try to find your own way through the game.'
'The Roof' is part of the London International Festival of Theatre and will run until the end of June.
