Royal tomb discovered in Luxor

A very old pharaonic tomb was discovered by Spanish archeologists in Luxor, Egypt. According to first information, the tomb might belong to a leader from the 11th dynasty of Egypt.

This discovery confirms the presence of many tombs from the 11th dynasty in the Deraa Abu Naga region. This will provide new insights into a former dinasty that ruled the city,” said its founder, Spanish archeologist Jose Galan.

The tomb's cover and the tomb itself was covered with old engravings tied to high ranking individuals. Mohamed Ibrahim, the Egyptian Antiquities Minister visited the site and said the first clues show the tomb might have been used for someone in the royal family, or very close to.

A similar tomb was found a few years ago near Luxor and that tomb contained a well preserved mummy, a sarcophagus and a few arches, arrows and other artifacts that are now on display in Luxor's museum.

The city of Luxor is located in the banks of the river Nile in southern Egypt. It's home to 500,00 people and it is called the “world's greatest open air museum”, because of the multitude of ruins, temples and tombs in its vicinity.
