Picasso painting found under other painting
Researchers have recently discovered a hidden painting of Pablo Picasso. Where it was hidden? Beneath another work created by the renowned painter.
‘The Blue Room,’ one of Picasso’s first masterpieces, painted in Paris, in 1901, was made on top of another painting, portraying a bearded man who is resting his head on one of his arms, wearing three rings on his hand.
Scientists and art experts used infrared imagery in order to reveal the hidden painting.
54 years ago, an expert wrote that the image of a woman bathing in ‘The Blue Room’ painting had some peculiar brushstrokes on it, inconsistent with those of the entire composition.
This was not the first time Picasso overlapped paintings and the reason might be that, when he had an idea but no canvas to paint on, he just used one of his older works of art.
As to the identity of the man beneath ‘The Blue Room’ masterpiece, experts think that it might be Parisian art dealer Ambrose Villard who organized Picasso’s first show in 1901, but are not certain of this.
