The Parisian Pantheon covered in 'selfies'
The “selfie” is no longer a trend on social media platforms but a full size phenomenon. A French artist established this thanks to a mammoth project featuring a collage of thousands of big selfies exhibited in Paris.
The exhibition is called “Au Pantheon!” opened to the general public on the 4th of June and it is located in the famous Paris location Pantheon. It was described immediately after the opening as the “ultimate selfie experiment”.
The French street artist JR came up with the idea of using 4,000 black and white selfies from around the world to cover up the scaffolding of the building. The portraits were used around the drum of the pantheon building, beneath the dome and on certain places within the monument.
All the photos featured were taken through the use of mobile phones. JR was commissioned to decorate the facade of the monument during its restoration project. “The Center of National Monuments in France approached me because they didn't want any advertising on this monument and they wanted to let an artist take over,” said JR to Parisian news.
