US moves military close to Iraq

The US seems to be preparing for a military intervention in Iraq as it moved military machinery and personnel into the region and awaits for President Obama to release orders.

The United States might interfere in Iraq to help state troops fight off the ISIL extremists who continue to gain ground in the country and have proved to be extremely violent after yesterday’s mass execution of at least 1,500 Iraqi captured soldiers.

The aircraft carrier George HW Bush alongside five warships and dozens of helicopters with over 500 marine soldiers have been relocated in the Persian Gulf and are on stand-by until any further notice.

The top priority for the Americans is to evacuate all American citizens from the embassy in Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq. The Sunni militants have repeatedly threatened to attack the city and are now within a few hours of entering the town.

US Secretary of State, John Kerry, acknowledged that an air attack on Iraq is taken into consideration: ‘Well, they are not the whole answer but they may well be one of the options that are important to be able to stem the tide and stop the movement of people who are moving around in open convoys and trucks and terrorizing people. When you have people murdering, assassinating in these mass massacres, you have to stop that and you do what you need to do.’

However, the US is trying to avoid undertaking military procedures in Iraq as much as possible: ‘I think we are open to any constructive process here that could minimize the violence, hold Iraq together -- the integrity of the country -- and eliminate the presence of outside terrorist forces that are ripping it apart,’ said Kerry.

Forming an alliance with Iran might also be an option and the leaders of the two countries have already met in Vienna for ‘very brief discussions’ about Iraq and how to deal with the ISIS extremists threat.
