Suspicious backpacks at the Boston marathon
Hundreds of people were evacuated on Tuesday evening in Boston, in the northeastern part of the United States, after the discovery of two suspicious backpacks near where the attacks from last year's marathon took place.
The police said that a man was arrested. A bomb squad detonated the suspicious backpacks just hours after a ceremony in the memory of the victims of the double attack, that left three dead and 264 wounded, was committed, during the marathon.
No informations for the moment about what the backpacks contained.
An eyewitness told the AFP that he saw a young man, aged about 20, dressed in black, wearing a backpack.
He called the police who detained the student at Massachusetts College of Arts, according to eyewitnesses.
Boylston Street, where the attack took place twice in the marathon, was closed, and a subway line was suspended, said police, who called on the city residents to avoid the area.
