70 injured and 1 killed by earthquake in Pakistan
A 5 magnitude earthquake which was initially evaluated at 4.6, shook several towns in southern Pakistan on Friday morning, killing one person and injuring 70 others, according to a government official.
Most of the people were sleeping when the quake struck at 4 a.m. local time, so it set panic among the population, said Roshan Ali Sheikh, the top official at the province's rehabilitation and disaster management department.
According to Pakistani meteorologist Toseef Ahmed, the epicenter of the quake was 27 kilometers (15 miles) north of Nawabshah, about 400 kilometers of capital of southern Sindh province.
Lots of people were admited into hospitals with head injuries and broken bones, and at least five of them were listed in a critical condition, according to doctor Mohammed Hashim from a main government hospital.
At least 25 homes were declared destroyed while authorities still were assessing the damage.
"I thought as if I am sitting in a boat and it is facing a storm," a local said. "The walls of our home started swaying, and I quickly came out along with my family members."
