Romania is olympic at astronomy and astrophysics!
Denis Turcu is number one at astronomy and astrophysics, in the entire world!
The seventh edition of International Olympiad of Astronomy and Astrophyisics took place in Greece, at Volos, during 27th of July – 5th of August 2013. Over 100 participants gathered there, from 20 countries.
The best result of that competition was achieved by Romanian people! They managed to achieve 2 golden medals, 2 silver medals and one bronze medal.
The first golden medal was won by Denis Turcu, pupil in the 11th grade at The International High School of Computerings, in Bucharest. The second golden medal was taken by Iustina Craciun, pupil at the same high school, for the best solving of problems during the competition.
The silver medals were achieved by Andrei Alexandru Cuceu, pupil in the eleventh grade and Paul Andrei Draghis, a tenth grade pupil at National College “Vasile Lucaciu” from Baia Mare.
The bronze medal was won by Catalina Miritescu, eleventh grade pupil in Bucharest.
Denis Turcu, born in Braila, is attending classes at The International High School of Computerings in Bucharest. His hometown - Braila - is proud of him! During his 9th grade, he received a complete scholarship from the international school.
He got several rewards from different competitions, during the last three years. A silver medal at The International Olympiad of Physics, the first place in Europe and the 5th place world wide, along with his Romanian team - at the same competition.
Denis Turcu was the only one who attended a course called "The theory of numbers", at The Summer School of University Standford, last summer. He gained a big scholarship, due to numerous results at the math competitions he attended.
