Passenger plane crashes in Iran, kills all but 9
Continuing the series of passenger plane crashes of the current and last month, an Iranian passenger plane carrying 48 people crashed shortly after taking off from the country’s capital, Tehran.
According to the Deputy Ministry of Transportation, Ahmad Majidi, one of the plane’s engines went off in mid-flight, causing the plane to crash in a residential area.
Although it was believed, at first, that all 48 people on board had died, 9 survivors have been found. Some of them, though, have suffered severe injuries and are in a precarious condition.
This last crash was not the first for the Iranian airlines. Many of the country’s planes are in a bad condition due to old age and poor maintenance.
US sanctions imposed on Iran prohibit the country to update its planes or buy spare parts from Europe.
