Bangladesh ferry sinks, 125 feared dead
125 people are feared to be dead after their ferry had capsized in central Bangladesh.
Families of the missing persons raged against authorities for launching what they said was a superficial rescue mission. People were left inside the ferry for more than 24 hours.
The MV Pinak ferry was carrying around 200 people on Padma river when it capsized. 110 people managed to save themselves by swimming to shore but another 125 are thought to have died.
Rescue workers proved to be unable to locate the sunken ferry due to strong currents in the river.
‘Can't I expect the body of my sister? What are they doing? Nothing,’ said one angry relative of a missing person.
Meanwhile, bad weather and strong current are slowing down the rescue operation as two large vessels used for such cases are forced to remain anchored due to heavy storms.
