No more military dolphins for Ukraine
Ukraine is humiliated once again: Russia, that has the controls now on all the military installations in Crimea, has also taken control on its military dolphin program.
The program, which was a secret, started during the Soviet time, with the base in the in Sevastopol and is known for training the mammals to kill divers even with harpoons stuck to their back, and even to get themselves killed, just like in a suicide mission, in the attacks on vessels, reports the Telegraph.
The program was resumed a few years ago, but sources from the Sevastopol oceanarium said that the government is planning to shut it down this year, reports the ABC.
"The Ukrainian Navy lacked the funds for such know-how, and some projects had to be shuttered," said a source, also adding that the combat dolphin will now be "preserved and redirected" for the Russian Navy.
