Germany offers military support for the Baltic countries
After NATO forces and US confirmed they will provide military assistance to the three Baltic countries, now Germany joins the task force. Fighter jets could be deployed at any moment from Germany to provide support.
The German Defence Ministry stated that it is ready to deploy a navy vessel to patrol the waters near Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, while six fighter jets could for air operations. The German media said the final decision will be announced tomorrow during the NATO meeting schedules in Brussels.
The three Baltic countries were under Moscow's influence until 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed. Officials in Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia expressed their worries after the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
All three countries are NATO members since 1994. This march marked the 10th anniversary of the membership. U.S. Officials announced earlier this month Washington could send forces in the region to reassure the stability, while six F-15 fighter jets are already patrolling the Baltic skies since the beginning of the month.
