Car bomb atack in Athens
A car bomb caused a powerful explosion in front of the Bank of Greece, in central Athens, without causing casualties, on Thursday morning, the first day of the bonds launch account since the Greek debt crisis began, said a police source.
The explosion occurred at 02.55 GMT, in a vehicle parked on the sidewalk, in front of the Central Bank, near an office of the Troika EU-ECB-IMF international lenders, according to preliminary police items available.
The blast did not hurt anyone, according to the same sources. The damages were being assessed.
According to police, the car brand Nissan, a stolen vehicle, was carrying 75 kilograms of explosives. A phone call to the news website and newspaper Zougla and Efymerida Syndakton warned the police an hour before triggering the mechanism.
The attacks, generally victimless, that aim economic, institutional and political targets, are common in Greece and are assigned, in general, to the anarchist movement. Organizations within the movement often claim these attacks.
