Boat sinks killing 40 illegal migrants
40 people have perished after a boat carrying illegal migrants sunk off the coast of Tripoli, Libya, on Sunday.
Although 50 of the passengers were rescued, there still is an unknown number of people missing.
Libya's Interior Ministry, Rami Kaal, declared that the nationalities of the migrants are unclear but Libya’s experiencing a continuous flood of illegal migrants from Egypt and Syria heading to Europe, especially Italy and Malta.
He warned the EU that, if no one steps in to control the waves of illegal migrants, Libya will not only permit, but facilitate the passage of migrants on their route toward Europe: ‘I warn the world, especially the European Union, unless they assume their responsibility ... we warn that Libya could facilitate the passage of this flood (of illegal migrants) and fast.’
