Will Dr. Dre become the first billionaire in hip-hop?

The race to become the first billionaire in hip-hop/rap is still on, but it looks like Dr. Dre is going to clinch the spot. The legendary rapper, producer and actor has a fortune of over 500 million dollars.

However, his net worth could go off charts if Apple decides to finally acquire Beats Electronics. Dr. Dre is a co-founder at beats Electronics, an audio products and equipment producer. According to Forbes he owns 20 to 25 percent of the company's stakes. If Apple acquires Beats Electronics and Dre cashes in, his fortune will most likely hit the 1 billion marker.

The move would make the hip-hop legend the richest man in the game, millions ahead of Jay-Z, Diddy, 50 Cent and others. Dre even declared himself “the first billionaire in hip hop” in a video posted on a social network, along with rapper and actor Tyrese Gibson.
