Prince gets independent with music
Prince now owns his own music.
The artist has assigned the rights to his entire catalogue of music to NPG Music Publishing, breaking his previous contract with Universal Music Group, who has held the rights for his music, for the last twenty years!
Prince created NPG Music about a month ago and, according to the press release, "was founded by Artists for Artists. The team will be led by some of the best talent in the industry".
Prince has assigned his entire catalogue of songs to NPG Music Publishing. The terms of the deal are not public, yet, but the deal includes a repertoire of songs that Prince considers "fit 4 eternal publication".
Among the songs found in the catalogue there are several hits like: 'Kiss', 'When Doves Cry', 'Little Red Corvette', 'Let's Go Crazy', 'U Got the Look', 'Purple Rain', 'Diamonds and Pearls', and many, many others.
NPG Music Publishing marks the first time Prince's publishing has been independently controlled and administered in over twenty years.
His newest single on Epic Records, "FALLINLOVE2NITE" was already assisted by NPG Music Publishing.
Rolling Stone has called Prince "one of the most naturally gifted artists of all time" and now the world will be able to experience and enjoy more of his music through an innumerable of mediums.
