Pharrell Williams' success is up to his fans
His 'Happy' single was nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards this year. But the success of his single is not up to him. He insists he cannot control how well a track becomes, instead fans do! Because eventually they are the ones who decide to purchase and share the tune, or not!
Pharrell said: "Success means the people voted, they requested, they shared it with a friend, they purchased it, they downloaded it. And they did it in large numbers. That is what success means. I have nothing to do with that. I can only control what I do".
The musician admits he saw things in a different perspective before. But now, he considers 'Happy' as being a catchy song. He finds himself "hooked" to the success.
Pharrell is 40 years old! Oh, wow! Who would have thought?
He added to Red Bulletin magazine: "When I was young, yeah, I looked at it differently, because I looked at a lot of people who quantified their happiness by how successful they were. And nobody wants to work really hard and not get recognised for it. You want to be appreciated for your work. But there is a fine line between appreciating your work and doing super well and you getting hooked on that. If you get hooked on success you're screwed".
