Beaten celebrities appear in anti-torture campaign

3 big names from the different worlds of religion, rock and fashion have been brought together, under one campaign against torture as a method of extracting information.

Although, normally, these 3 celebrities would be highly unlikely to be seen together, now, the people of Belgium can see posters of them ‘beaten and bruised,’ alongside a strange quote from the celebrity.

Thus, the Dalai Lama quote reads: ‘A man who does not have a Rolex watch at 50 years old has failed in his life.’

Rock star, Iggy Pop, says: ‘The future of rock’n’roll is Justin Bieber.’

And, finally, fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld claims that ‘The summit of elegance is the Hawaiian shirt and the tong.’

Naturally, in case you’ve been wondering, there is a pun to these unlikely quotes. The slogan of the campaign says: ‘torture a man and he will tell you anything.’

Anything meaning the truth, half a truth or quite the opposite.

The Amnesty International anti-torture campaign makers hope that, by these shocking images, to show that torture is a problem and a reality for thousands of people worldwide but also that it is completely ineffective.

Philippe Hensmans, director of the Belgian francophone section of Amnesty International, explained: ‘Governments of torture and ill-treatment claim they obtain valuable information. But history has shown that tortured people are often willing to say anything for the pain to stop – the whole truth, only a part or its opposite.’
