Simona Halep cruised into Wimbledon semifinals
The WTA has been talking about her since her quarter final at this year's Australia Open. After reaching the Final at Roland Garros, the 22 year old Romanian tennis player advanced into the semifinals at Wimbledon.
Halep trashed Sabine Lisicki, despite the German had a great start. She was three games up in the first set at one point, 4-1, when Halep unleashed her shots. Lisicki never won a game after that. Halep snatched the first set 6-4 and got the job done in the second one 6-0 for a victory in 57 minutes. “It was a great atmosphere on Center Court and I am very glad for the victory. I have a lot of self confidence and I think this is my secret. I enjoy playing tennis. I gained a lot of experience, I love tennis and all I want to do Is play,” said Halep after today's victory.
She made it into the semifinals at Wimbledon where she will face Eugenie Bouchard. The Canadian tennis player knocked out Angelique Kerber in consecutive sets 6-3, 6-4. The 13 seed grab a semifinal in every Grand Slam this year. The two of them met only once. Halep won the duel that took place at this year's Indian Wells tournament.
If she makes it into the final, from next week she will go up one spot from third to second in the WTA ranking. Halep became earlier this year the first Romanian tennis player to clinch the Top 3, and the first one to play at least quarter finals in three consecutive Grand Slams. She is also the first Romanian player ever to make it into the last four at Wimbledon.
