Russia wants Ukraine destroyed, says Arseniy Yatsenyuk
Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Ukrainian Prime Minister, accuses Russia of trying to destroy Ukraine, the gas delivery stoppage being just another move in its plan.
Moreover, not only does Kiev refuse to pay its debt to Russian gas supplier, Gazprom, but it also claims that the gas company owes Ukraine as much as $6 billion. The money, according to Ukraine's Naftogaz, represents the amount that Ukraine has overpaid for Gazprom's gas delivery since 2010.
So far, Ukraine remains calm as to the shortage of gas supplies since it can still make use of reserves and, during the summer months, gas is not as important as it is during winter.
'This gas war will be different from previous ones. It has started in summer, when both Ukraine and the EU don’t depend as much on Russian gas. They have time to solve this problem,' said political expert, Euheniy Mahda.
