Iraq’s PM has no mercy for the opposition
Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, refuses to form a new government where the opposition could have a decision-making role, saying that such a move would be ‘an attempt to end the democratic experience.’
US Secretary of State, John Kerry, had previously recommended al-Maliki to include the opposition in the new government and Iraq’s PM promised then to form a new administration by July 1.
However now, al-Maliki rejects an administration that would include all religious and ethnic groups, explaining that such a decision would be opposite to April’s parliamentary elections when the Shia bloc, which al-Maliki represents, won.
‘The dangerous goals of forming a national salvation government are not hidden. It is an attempt by those who are against the constitution to eliminate the young democratic process and steal the votes of the voters,’said the PM.
The minority Sunni Arab community has long been accusing the PM of discrimination and power monopoly.
