Serbian mass grave exhumations
Excavations have begun at a suspected mass grave in the Serbian village of Rudnica, near the Kosovo border.
Forensic experts from Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia will work for approximately 60 days, including weekends, to exhume at least 250 bodies of ethnic Albanians the mass grave is believed to contain.
The victims were killed during the 1998-1999 Kosovo war that took the life of over 10,000 people. The conflict originated between Serbian security troops and Kosovo separatists.
During the war, hundreds of bodies had been taken and buried in central Serbia to conceal any traces of war atrocities.
Veljko Odalovic, Serbian government official dealing with the wartime missing, declared that ‘the location is technically ready and until we have searched the location completely we will not stop.’
