American journalist released from captivity in Ukraine
American journalist Simon Ostrovsky (photo) was released in good health after being held in captivity by pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine.
Ostrovsky along with four other journalists were detained on Monday evening.
According to Stella Khorosheva, a spokeswoman for the Slavyansk militia, the other four journalists were released after an hour, but Ostrovsky remained captive on suspicion of “bad activities”.
The journalists—including Ostrovsky from VICE, Simon Shuster from Time, a Ukrainian photographer, a British photojournalist, and a Russian photographer—were traveling in a car in Slavyansk when they were stopped at a separatist checkpoint.
