48 girls found in ferry cabin with 30 capacity
The bodies of 48 girls, all wearing life-jackets, were found today by divers searching the sunken Sewol ferry.
The girls were all crammed in a cabin with a maximum capacity of 30. It seems that the 48 teenagers rushed into the same room, in an attempt to save themselves as the boat was sinking.
As it was the case with other passengers of the ferry who drowned, the life-vests may have actually prevented the girls from escaping because most exit passages would have been below them, underwater.
The confirmed death toll has climbed today to 185 with 117 still missing and little to no hope of any survivors.
Divers are now trying to enter a dorm-like cabin where, presumably, another 50 girls may have drowned.
