Nigerian Boko Haram group kidnapped 260 schoolgirls
The Islamist militant group Boko Haram which, on Monday, claimed responsibility for the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls during a a raid in the Nigerian village of Chibok, have now kidnapped another eight girls from a north-eastern village.
According to eyewitnesses, the girls, aged 12 to 15, were loaded into trucks alongside stolen livestock and taken away.
Abubakar Shekau, the Boko Haram group leader, posted a video where he threatened to sell the girls.
‘We are offering practical help. What has happened here, the actions of Boko Haram in using girls as the spoils of war, the spoils of terrorism, is disgusting. It is immoral. It should show everybody across the world that they should not give any support to such a vile organisation,’ declared British Foreign Secretary William Hague.
While international outrage is increasing, families of the kidnapped girls are furious that the government has failed to locate the over 260 girls and put an end to the Islamist group’s insurgent actions that have left, so far, 1,500 dead this year.
