Man needs surgery after swallowing 12 gold bars
A 63-years-old Indian citizen, whose name was not disclosed, reported to the New Delhi hospital with severe abdominal pains and nausea. He told the doctors that he had accidentally swallowed a plastic bottle cap.
His X-rays clearly showed he had stomach blockage and was in need of surgery. But, when the doctors opened his stomach, they found something completely unexpected.
12 gold bars, each weighing 33 grams, were pulled out of the man’s stomach.
‘It was unexpected,’ C.S. Ramachandran, the doctor who conducted the surgery, said.
The man apparently tried to smuggle the gold in the country in a way in which he could avoid the 10% tax levied on gold imports in India.
Now, the gold has been handed over to the police who sent it to customs and the man responsible for all of this has been discharged after the surgery and is currently recovering.
