“Ring taxi” ride goes wrong
All motorsports fans know their passion is not a hobby, but more like a lifestyle. Motorsports enthusiasts travel with their teams at various races and even race themselves on famous racetracks such as the most famous “Nurburgring”.
For those that do not own a 400 horse-power car or do not posses the driving skills, the guys managing the famous racetrack made up the so called “Ring taxi”. The service is opened for everyone and for 225 Euros, a maximum of three passengers can go around the 20 kilometer track in a BMW M5.
The fast saloon is usually driven by a professional race driver and the run is over in less than ten minutes. The Ring Taxi is famous because they have been doing it for more than 25 years. The first run was recorded in 1986 and since then the “taxi” made more than 30,000 laps, took close to 100,000 passengers around and clocked more than 650,000 kilometers.
The “Ring Taxi” is no longer an entertainment service. It became a business and Nurburgring managers know how to a make a profit out of it. The managers make more than 100.000 euros per year just running the taxi. And they don't have to pay for the car because BMW is using the track to refine its creations so most likely the famous German brand is sponsoring the “Taxi Ring” with power-house cars.
Despite the fact that the cars are equipped properly and the drivers are professionals, some times the service can go wrong. An enthusiast caught on video the “Ring Taxi” crashing. No one was seriously injured, but the 4.4 liter twin-turbo 560 horse power BMW was wrecked.
