Two Salvador Dali paintings identified
After a long hunt, art experts at the Gala-Salvador Dali Foundation managed to identify and certify two oil paintings made by the Spanish surrealistic artist Salvador Dali.
The two paintings date back to 1930 and they were seen in an open display exhibition only once, in separate exhibitions. One of the painting now belongs to Yale University in the US, where the paintings were found.
“We had identified the works, but we did not know where they were or how to link them to Dali. We thought they were made by him but we had to verify. These are works from Dali's surrealist period. Both are very significant,” said Montsa Agues, Gala Salvador Dali Foundation director for the research department.
One painting is called the “Free Inclination of Desire” and it now belongs to Yale University. It was first and only exibited in 1935 at a show in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The second painting is called “Similation of Night” and it also appeared only once at an exhibition in San Francisco in 1965. The painting now belongs to a private collector.
