A Spanish museum can't find almost 900 items
Prado Muesum, one of the most renowned in the world can't find almost 900 works of art. The famous museum based in Madrid, Spain has a massive collection of painting dating back centuries.
A report by Spain's Audit Court reveald 27,509 pieces of art in its inventory which makes the Prado Museum one of the largest in the world. However, according to Spanish EL Pais newspaper, the museum is unable to find 885 items that allegedly were misplaced.
Officials with the museum were not surprised or concerned with the discovery. They said some of the items could have been destroyed by fire of lost during the wars. The famous museum merged with the Trinidad Museum collection during the 19 century and some pieces might have been left behind, Prado's Museum spokesman said.
The 885 items are still present on paper in the inventory because if there are no conclusive evidence they were stolen, destroyed or misplaced they can not be removed from the lists. The Audit Court also stated that Prado Museum has insufficient staff members to properly manage the vast collection.
