1.8 million euros for a 'Fake'
“The Fake Rothko” brought a young contemporary Romanian artist almost 1.8 million euros. His picture was auctioned off by the famous Sotheby's in London and it was acquired at a price that exceeded even the most optimistic evaluation.
“The Fake Rothko” was signed by the Artist in 2010 and it was valued by Sotheby's specialists between 250,000 and 350,000 Pounds. The painting was the surprise of the entire auction when bids started to flow in.
The winning bid surpassed the evaluation almost four times and it was acquired by an anonymous buyer for exactly 1,426,500 pounds (1,778,422 euros). Even the artist was impressed who never sold previously any picture for more than 250.000 euros.
