The Musketeers in art
PARIS - Musketeers! The word itself sounds like a promise of style: fine sword thrusts and adventure.
The new exhibition at the Musée de l’Armée displays art about the heroes who inspired Alexandre Dumas. Yet musketeer's real role is not well known. Whether they were fiction or reality, there's no doubt Alexandre Dumas played a part in many people becoming historians.
Richelieu, d'Artagnan or the iron mask would have never achieved the status of world-wide myths for sure if it wasn't for Dumas' work.
Therefore, this exhibition is an opportunity to question the relationship between literature and history.
Sometimes a spectator, sometimes an archaeologist, visitors will head off to meet the real d'Artagnan, Louis XIII and Richelieu, the scheming Milady and the iron mask...
Children and adults will all find something captivating in the exhibition. Handling swords, a fencing demonstration and reading of the novel The Three Musketeers, lectures and a symposium are on the programme.
