Pace and Axel Vervoordt branch to Hong Kong
An 'office gallery' as its director Sylvie Tiao calls it, will be opened in Hong Kong by Pace. The rather small venue (1,200 sq. ft) will open on 13 May, to coincide with the Art Basel fair in the city. The space, located in Entertainment Building in Central Hong Kong, will be Pace's fourth international location after New York, Beijing and London. According to Tiao, Pace moved to Hong Kong partly because of “the activeness and openness of the market, and its apparent tax advantages” (there is no sales tax, VAT or capital gains tax in Hong Kong).
For the inaugural show, there will be displayed oil on paper paintings by the popular Chinese artist Zhang Xiaogang.
On the same day, the Belgium dealer Axel Vervoordt will open an exhibition of the Ghanaian artist El Anatsuia within the Entertainment Building.
