New paintings by Croatian artist displayed in New York
NEW YORK, NY - Croatian artist Zlatan Vehabović will have his art work exhibited at Marc Straus. This is the second solo show for new paintings of the artist.
The Croatian's actual exhibition gathers literary adventure themes, such as men at sea and fantastical animals, like a huge whale for example.
The Scottish folk song “My Donal,” written in the 1960s by author Owen Hand, was the muse that inspired the artist.
The song’s narrative addresses the pain endured by the worrying wives of whalers as they grappled with the uncertainty of what would happen to their husbands while at sea.
In Cursed Crew, Vehabović mesmerizes audience with his use of color: the azure blue of the sea beckons any eye, while the reflections of lights on the whalers’ faces warn us to keep our distance.
Vehabović says: “It is rare that so many personal and important notions can be found in one single song”.
The artist lives and works in Zagreb, Croatia.
