'European Modernism meets Japan’s Way of Tea'
Mastering his art from taking photographs of modernist architecture to designing it, the Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto (photo) is opening the “Glass Tea House Mondrian” on June 6 in Venice, preceding by one day the 14th Architecture Biennale.
The project, titled European Modernism meets Japan’s Way of Tea, will be a transitory contribution to Le Stanze del Vetro, an exhibition venue for modern glass art on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
The visitors will enter two by two a glass cube in which an experienced “tea master” will present the traditional ceremony with utensils made by Kyoto artisans to Sugimoto’s specifications.
