Charlie Chaplin Museum to open in Switzerland
Charlie Chaplin's home in the village of Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland, will be finally opened as a museum in early 2016, after 14 years of discussions.
More than $45.7 million will be spent in the next two years for the transformation of the large mansion on the Lake Geneva, which was home to the legend for 25 years.
"We will build something unique: a museum that mixes both culture and entertainment," curator Yves Durand said.
"Now, everything is set. We have the financing, the project leader, the architect, the scenographer and the green light from the family," he added.
"He lived in total misery, abandoned by his father and with a mother who was often institutionalised for psychological problems," said the actor's son, Mickael Chaplin.
"This manor was for him the house of his dreams, as he showed in his film Modern Times. My mother and my father [who both rest in the nearby Corsier-sur-Vevey cemetary] found happiness here in Switzerland," he added.
