Art’s other half

A considerable number of women artists were exhibited at London Gallery Day last weekend. The art show venues were open until late at night and held special events.

Eva Rothschild’s solo show inaugurated the new space of Stuart Shave/Modern Art’s on Helmet Row.

Pieces by the German artist Salome Ghazanfari were displayed at Ancient and Modern while three women painters - Phoebe Unwin (work in the photo), Clare Woods and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye were staged at the non-commercial Contemporary Art Society.

It is lovely to see so many young women artists given exposure this weekend,” said Domo Baal, one of the founders of the event.

“The imbalance is improving, but the progress, as in other sectors of the professional world, is slow,” said Caroline Douglas, the director of the Contemporary Arts Society, regarding to gender differences in the art world.
