Villa will play for Melbourne City before MLS move
Spain's International and La Liga winner with Atletico Madrid signed a few years ago with the American team New York City FC. Before he heads to US he will shortly shift continents to Australia.
The 32 year old striker became the first player to ever sign a deal with the new club. But before the start of the Major League Soccer in March he will play in Australia for Melbourne City. The club is also part-owned by Manchester City bosses and it is part of the franchise.
Villa said it will be a totally new experience for him. “It's an opportunity to play in a new league in a different country and of course it will be ideal for me to get some competitive football in the period before the MLS season starts,” said Villa. He will be coached by Dutchman John van't Schip who is thrilled he will have a World Champion in his team. “He is an instinctive and gifted striker who will contribute significantly to Melbourne City,” said the coach.
Meanwhile, the 32 year old striker made the announcement he will retire from Spain's national team at the end of the World Cup. “For sure this is my last World Cup and without a doubt the games here will be my last in the national team. This is the perfect moment, but what I really want now is a very good tournament in Brazil,” also said Villa.
