Top seeds into the semis at the French Open

France's last favorite was knocked out of Roland Garros. Gael Monfils was France's last hope for a semifinal and maybe even for a final. Despite his best efforts, Monfils lost in five sets the battle with Andy Murray who advanced into the last four.

It was the match of the day in Paris. Andy Murray clinched the first two sets 6-4, 6-1. Cheered by almost everybody, Monfils stepped up his game and snatched the next two sets with the same score, 6-4, 6-1. After more than two long and hard hours of tennis it was physical fatigue that decided the winner. Murray won the last set 6-0 and advanced into the semifinal where he will face number one seed and all time winner leader Rafael Nadal. The second semifinal at the French Open brings face to face Novak Djokovic and Milos Raonic.

In the women's competition everyone is talking about Simona Halep. The 22 year old Romanian tennis player reached her first Grand Slam semifinal after knocking out Svetlana Kuznetsova. Halep needed just shy over an hour to win the match 6-2, 6-2.

I felt very well on court. It was a perfect day for me, I played very well. I was very aggressive and I played very fast and I am very happy that I can play semifinals in Paris,” said Halep after the game. She will battle for a place in the grand final with Andrea Petkovic and if she reaches the final act, next week she will be number 3 in the WTA rankings.
