The sheiks of sports
Manchester City is not leading any points classification this season, but it's leading money charts. A survey made by Sportingintelligence.com revealed that, on average, City players are the best payed in global sports.
According to this survey, Manchester City pays 5.33 million Pounds on average, to each of its first-team players. The reason City is dominating the chart is because it's owned by Sheikh Mansour who started pouring money into the team a few years ago. The top three is completed by two teams competing in the Major League Baseball, New York Yankees and LA Dodgers. In fact, football is dominating the survey. Six out of ten positions are taken by football club, while the rest of four are divided in half between basketball and baseball.
The Spanish giants, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are filling up the top five, both clubs paying each first-team players just shy above 4,9 million Pounds. The top ten is locked by Chelsea Football Club with an average wage of 3.98 million pounds.
“The salaries report features average salary information from the dozen most popular sports leagues in the world witch are the NFL, Bundesliga, Premier league, AFL, MLB, La Liga, CFL, NPB, Serie A, IPL, NHL and NBA. The Global Sports Salaries Survey looks solely at earnings from playing sport,” was written in the same survey.
Surprisingly, NBA only sent two teams in the top ten, but Sportingintelligence has confirmed the National Basketball Association is the highest payed league as a whole with all active 441 players at 30 teams each earning an average of 2.2 million Pounds.
