The semifinal of the 'beauties'
It can easily qualify as the most “beautiful” battle at the 2014 Roland Garros. The semifinal between Canada's Eugenie Bouchard and Russian's Maria Sharapove will bring face to face two of the most beautiful players in the WTA circuit.
Eugenie Bouchard had a tough mission to reach the semifinals, but in managed to pull it off. She knocked out Carla Suarez Navarro in three sets 7-6, 2-6, 7-5. “It was such a physical emotional battle and I was down and always coming back and fighting. I am proud of my self that I fought through and pull out the win,” said Bouchard who needed two hours to qualify.
However, here's where things get tricky. She will fight Maria Sharapova for a place in the grand final. The Canadian tennis player said Sharapova was a role model for her years ago, but they are not friends. “We are not friends and as I child I looked up to her and I remember watching her in the final at Wimbledon and I wanted to do the same thing. Sure I respect her, but we are in the semis at a Grand Slam. I will leave everything off court focus on my self, try my best to win,” Bouchard said.
Sharapova had also a tough match in the quarters. The former WTA number one needed three sets to knock out Gabrine Muguruza 1-6, 7-5, 6-1. “I started playing a little bit better in the second set. I got into the court, played a bit more aggressive and I served better than in the first one. It was a combination of a few things. I;m very happy with the way I came through,” said Sharapova.
The semifinal between Sharapova and Bouchard is scheduled on Thursday. Sharapova played last two finals at the French Open. She won in 2012 over Sara Errani, but lost to Serena Williams last year.
