The 'Finnish' way of winning

The Finnish rider of FDJ, Jussi Veikkanen Cycling team became the subject of all jokes in Giro d'Italia Stage 17. The stage was won by Stefano Pirazzi at sprint. Veikkanen arrived at the finish line about half a minute later and thought he won.

Stage 17 in the Giro was not something out of the ordinary. A five men break away got to the finish line and Italian rider from Bardiani, Stefano Pirazzi won it, outmatching at the final sprint Tim Wellens, Jay McCarthy, Thomas de Gent and Matteo Montaguti. However, the scene of the stage came from Veikkanen.

The Finnish rider from FDJ finished 28 seconds after the leading group and though he won the stage. He sprinted and threw his hands in the air celebrating the victory. His joy turned into embarrassment in a matter of seconds when he found out five other rider crossed the line ahead of him. He managed to make fun of himself on his official Twitter account calling himself “The Clown of the day”. He even said he expects more jokes from the peloton today.
