The Crucible has a new champion
Despite all odds, Mark Selby has cracked “The Rocket” and won the Snooker World Championship. After winning two consecutive titles at Crucible and a total of five, Ronnie lost his first final, 144-18.
The Jester from Leicester trailed most of the final. He was down 3-8 and 5-10, but eventually managed to mount a comeback in the last session of the final. Selby became only the ninth player to win the Triple Crown of World (World Snooker Championship, UK Championship and Masters). The win also guarantees him the number one spot in the classification at the start of the next season.
“It's amazing really. Obviously it could not be better, playing Ronnie in the final. If you are going to win the World Championship, you want to win it with Ronnie in the tournament and there is no better way of wining it than beating him in the Final,” said Selby after the final.
Mark Selby was rewarded 300.000 Pounds for winning the World Championship, while the runner up, Ronnie O'Sullivan received 125.000 pounds.
