Serena Williams was knocked out of Roland Garros

Roland Garros defending champion Serena Williams was knock out from the second round in the biggest surprise of the tournament so far. This is the first time in Serena's career when she fails to reach the second week of a Grand Slam.

Williams will not be able to defend her title thanks to Gabrine Muguruza. The 20 year old Spanish tennis player gave Serena no chance and won the match in consecutive sets 6-2, 6-2. Muguruza is currently on the 35 spot of the WTA circuit and has never reached top 30.

After being knock out, Serena was very disappointed. “I will go home and work five times as hard to make sure I never lose again. It was one of those days. I hate to be off during a Grand Slam, but it can happen,” said Williams.

The top two seeds at the 2014 French open women's competition are already out from the first week. After Na Li's and Serena's early exit, Agnieszka Radwanska has the biggest chance to win the tournament followed by Romanian Simona Halep who was fourth seeded at the start of the tournament.
