Player of the year award goes to Suarez
Luis Suarez received last night the Player of the year award from the Professional Footballers' Associations. Liverpool's striker is the top scorer in the Premier League with 30 goals in 31 games.
He is regarded by football specialist as one of the main reasons why Liverpool leads the league and could potentially win the championship after a very long time. The 26 year old Uruguayan player also broke a few records this year. He became the fastest player in Premier League history to reach 20 goals in one season (outmatching recently Gareth Bale, Robin van Persie, Cristiano Ronaldo or Wayne Rooney) and the first Liverpool player to reach 30 goals in one season after Ian Rush in 1987.
Suarez even joked around at the ceremony in London and said about 95 percent of the awards belongs to the team and the rest is his effort. “I always try my best for the team and it is noce to get awards but really this is for my team-mates and the staff at Liverpool because without their help I wouldn't have this prize,” Suarez added.
Even more impressive is the fact that Suares scored 30 goals in a shorter span because he missed the first six games of the season because of a ten-game suspension received last year after biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic. Liverpool sent the most player in the “team of the year”. Along with Suarez, Steven Gerrand and Daniel Sturridge were also included.
