Nadal and Sharapova winners at Madrid masters
The Master of Clay has done it again. Rafael Nadal is the first tennis player to defend his Madrid Masters trophy since the tournament moved to the capital city of Spain.
Japanese Kei Nishikori went all out on the clay in Madrid and won the first set 6-2. The Japanese tennis player performed his best tennis in 2014, but his back injury was too much. Nishikori had the advantage in the second set, lost it 4-6 and at 0-3 in the final one, he retired. He practically handed the trophy to Rafael Nadal who is now the most prolific winner in Madrid with four trophies.
In the women's competition Maria Sharapova had a tough final. She lost the first set to Romanian sensation Simona Halep, 1-6, but then managed to win next two sets 6-2/6-3. Nadal and Sharapova took home close to 1.4 million euros for their win and 1,000 ATP/WTA points.
