Madrid will host the 2015 Euroleague Final Four
Palacio de Deportes in Madrid will host the 2015 Euroleague Final Four. The announcement was made by Euroleague Basketball officials shortly after Maccabi Tel Aviv won the 2013-2014 trophy over Real Madrid.
Euroleague's Final Four will return to Madrid after seven years. The last time the city hosted the event in 2008, it was CSKA Moscow who won. “This year had many candidates interested in welcoming the Final Four, but we have decided to return to Madrid, because it fulfils all the requirements of being a great host city. Madrid has a great arena in the city center, it is a basketball city with a huge fan base,” said Jordi Bertomeu, Euroleague's President and CEO.
The Euroleague Final Four will be played in Madrid between 15 and 17 May 2015. Madrid will be the host for the sixth time since 1958 and for the third time for the current system with a Final Four.
Palacio de Deportes is the homecourt of Real Madrid, but also Tuentil Estudiantes. The modern arena was opened in 2005. It is an indoor sporting arena with 13,500 to 16,000 seats depending on the venue. Its construction costs were estimated at 124 million euros. The arena also has a three-floor underground parking lot and sits close to the city center. The 2014 Euroleague Final Four will mark a decade since the arena was opened.
