Helena Costa is ready to take on Clermont
Helena Costa made history about a month ago when she became the first female appointed to manage a football team in the French professional club. The Portuguese manager came out and said she is not afraid of anything.
Costa was named manager at Clermont Foot at the end of the season and became the first female to coach a team in any of Europe's top two tires ever. “If I don't think I'm capable for this I wouldn't be here and if the players would not accepted me I would not be here,” she said.
36 year old Helena Costa has an impressive CV. She has a master degree in sports and UEFA A Licence to coach. She managed Benfica's youth team for 13 years, between 1997 and 2010. She was also a scout for Scotish club Celtic in Portugal and Spain.
She made the big step in 2010 when she was appointed as manager for Quatar's women national team and led them to their first ever victory. She then coached Iran's women national team but failed to lead the team to the 2015 World Cup. She was officially presented by Clermont Foot on 22 May 2014.
