Federer was knock out of Roland Garros
Roger Federer failed to reach the quarter finals of the Roland Garros for the first time in nine years. The 2009 winner was knocked out of the fourth round by Ernests Gulbis in five sets.
The 32 year old Swiss started quite well and snatched the first set 7-6. However, he lost the second on the same manner despite having a set point. Everything started to crumple after that for Federer. Gulbis won the third 6-2. The Swiss tennis player leved the game at two after a 4-6 sets, but eventually lost the decisive one 3-6.
A victory would have granted Federer his 42nd major tournament quarter-final and an all time high. “Clearly I'm very disappointed not to come through with the win after the chance in the second set and fighting back in the fourth. I have a lot of regrets, but I think Gulbis did a good job of hanging around and coming back in the second set. It was a tough match and I am disappointed,” said Federer after the game.
Meanwhile, second seed, Novak Djokovic stormed into the quarter finals after knocking out local favorite Jo Wilfied Tsonga in consecutive sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-1.
